When Alberto Mayer, an Italian amateur astronomer was looking through his telescope, he accidentally recorded a strange flying object transiting the Moon. Was it perhaps a UFO?

On June 29, 2007, Mayer was taking a series of images of the Moon's surface. Then he suddenly noticed a strange black spot on the edge of the satellite.

"For a moment I thought it was some dirt, or particle of powder on the sensor of the video camera," but later on I became aware of the dot slowly traversing through the typical distortions produced by viewing through atmospheric disturbance. At that point I commenced filming with the hope of obtaining stable images if possible," said Mayer.

The astronomer's first thought was that he had recorded one of our own satellites. Uncertain and eager to learn more about the object he had captured on film, Mayer checked the trajectory of known GeoSync satellites.

Finally, he was forced to conclude that none of Earth's satellites were near his location.

Mayer estimated that the UFO was about one kilometer in diameter.

"After years of observations, of nights passed observing and photographing the celestial sky, my personal opinion is that the universe could accommodate millions if not billions of life forms, from the elementary shapes to those regarded as 'intelligent.

The structure of the universe and what we know of it, the stars, all obey the same physical laws and they possess all the same chemical composition. The present conditions on the Earth have allowed the development of life from microbes. To support the thesis of a rich universe of life however, does not mean to say I accept the fact that many life forms run about indiscriminately in our skies, with the scope to study, to analyze us," said Mayer.
