In humans, the eye’s iris lends much-needed color to its center and the same goes for the Iris Nebula.
A hot, young central star powers the Iris Nebula’s light show, illuminating surrounding dust and gas into the blue and pink hues seen here. Also known as NGC 7023, the Iris Nebula sits about 1,300 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus.
